Top Ten Comics of the Week – 9th May 2019
Welcome to our weekly Top Ten Comics feature, where we look at the hottest comics that have sold online this week.
The Top Ten list is based on online auction site sales such as eBay. We don’t have all of these comics in stock, but if we do, we’ll link to them. We also have no influence in the chart, as it is based on global sales.
So, without further ado, let’s have a look at what selling like hotcakes this week!
1 - Walking Dead #191
Well, well. After weeks of having to write about Naomi, and an influx of hot books based on Endgame, it is nice to see a book hitting the top of the charts which has nothing to do with either.
In fact, it has been a long time since we have seen The Walking Dead hitting headlines, but what happens in the last few pages of this issue, looks set to change the entire course of the series.
That is why fans are jumping all over this issue.
2 - All-New Ghost Rider #1
Due to streaming service Hulu ordering a series based on Marvel Comics’ Ghost Rider, this issue is exploding right now.
From reports, it looks as though they are looking at the Robbie Reyes version of the Spirit of Vengeance, and this issue just so happens to be where his story begins.
It worked well in Agents of Shield, so why not get a whole series out of the character?
3 - Avengers #12
I think we are past the whole Endgame spoilers period. If you are here and reading this, you have seen the film, or just don’t care.
Towards the finale of Endgame, Tony takes it upon himself to wield the Infinity Gauntlet, and this issue shows him doing it for the very first time.
Pretty sure the cover had a HUGE clue towards that!
3 - Captain America #25
Again, the end of Endgame is responsible for the resurgence of this book.
Steve passes the Shield over to Sam Wilson, telling him that he should be the next Captain.
This comic shows the first modern interpretation of Sam as Captain America, and people are gobbling it up.
5 - Incredible Hulk #377
One of the biggest surprises from Avengers: Endgame, was the appearance of the Smart Hulk.
We don’t think many people could have expected to see such a turn around in Bruce Banner’s character following Infinity War, but yeah – Smart Hulk turns up.
A fan favourite character, he debuts in this issue. To a less ‘meh’ extent than Endgame, thankfully.
6 - Marvel Spotlight #12
Following on from the news above that Hulu are planning to make a TV show about Ghost Rider, the have also revealed that they will simultaneously make one about Damien Hellstrom.
He first appeared in this issue, and has gone on to become a mainstay in Marvel’s ‘horror’ side of their universe.
Should the show be a hit, this issue will skyrocket.
7 - Major X #1
Love him or hate him, Rob Liefeld has returned from the Image wilderness, to the company who first gave him his big break.
Back at Marvel, he has introduced a character that he claims he always meant to introduce back in the 90s, but never had the chance.
Well – thankfully, now he does. Sigh.
8 - The Eternals
The MCU has just come to a massive finale. There is nowhere that they can go from here, right?
Wrong. The Eternals are next on Marvel’s radar, and with an all star cast lined up already, it looks like phase five of the MCU is going cosmic!
9 - Mighty Thor #337
A huge rumour hit the interwebs this week, suggesting that the horse-faced Thor himself, Beta Ray Bill, may appear in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.
James Gunn is a known fan of the character, and has tweeted so much in the past, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for him to include the character in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, especially now that it looks like Thor Odinson may me a member of the crew now…..
10 - Mighty Thor #390
Oooooh – so, quiz time. This book is popular because of something that happens in Avengers: Endgame. Can you guess what it is?
Well, the cover doesn’t really help, and the interior may not either, but this is the first time that Cap wields Mjolnir. He is in U.S.Agent mode, but it still counts, right?
